Allan Heskin and Mary Kelly (1990s)

Allan Heskin, professor emeritus at UCLA, wrote about tenants rights, struggles, and the dialectics of community planning. His influential 1973 article “Foundations for a radical concept of planning”, written with Stephen Grabow, called for “the realization of a decentralized communal society that facilitates human development in the context of an ecological ethic by evolutionary social experimentation.” Trained as a lawyer, Heskin took Lynch’s humanism to its radical legal conclusion, incorporating both equitable access to the city and ecological sustainability.
